Waldviertler Whisky J.H. is Austria’s 1^st whisky, an individual creation and a own brand.

Particular importance was given to guarantee the product we produced was new with its own character and not just an imitation.

Regionality is very important for all our products. That is why we only use local grain, have our own water source that provides us with very soft water (2°d), store our products in austrian oak (Mannhartsberg common oak or sessile oak) and smoke (some of) our malt using local peat.

Our range consists of rye, rye malt and barley malt whiskies, which are available in a standard drinking strength of 41% vol. Some are also available as selection bottlings with 46% vol or in cask strength.

For connoisseurs, we have also peated whiskies made from 100% dark roasted rye or barley malt, stored in used sweet wine barrels from Austria. We also have our RARE Selection line which are bottlings from various pre-filled barrels (some just a single barrel).

Awards

A long serie of awards began in 1997 with the gold medal from the “Edelhof” in Lower Austria (Golden Ear). Our products are now highly decorated nationally and internationally. Such as from the DESTILLATA in Austria or the renowned IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition) in London. In 2017 our Rare Selection Original Rye Whisky J.H. was voted at the World Whisky Award to Austrias Best Rye Whisky. The renowned book author and whisky expert Jim Murry has voted our whisky for the Austrian Whisky of the year 2021.

From Scotland our whisky was awarded a special innovation price for our initiative and high quality standards. Well-known international experts such as Jim Murry, Michael Jackson or Dave Broom appreciate the high quality of our products and rate the whiskys accordingly in their publications.

Recently, our RYE MALT J.H. 15 was rated 94 points at the Falstaff Spirits tasting 2022 and was again the best whisky from Austria. In addition, our RARE BLENDED MALT J.H. was awarded with 93 points and our BLENDED MALT WHISKY J.H. with 89 points.
